How Easy is It to Get Tickets for the Houston Outdoor Theater
Updated 9:53 a.m. July 6
Heads up, outdoor arts fans, Houston Miller Outdoor Theatre has made a change to its ticketing policy to ensure even more Houstonians can enjoy its newly returned outdoor shows. Tickets, which are still free, will now be available two days before prior to a performance. "By shortening the time from one week to two days prior to the performance, we anticipate more ticket holders will be attending the shows," per a statement.
Of course, those tickets only ensure attendees a spot in the covered, seated area directly in front of the stage. There'll still be plenty of spots for picnic blankets and lawn chairs farther up the hill.

It seems Miller's keeping the fun in the sun going all summer long. While we don't quite know what's in store for the hottest part of the season, save for the return of the Houston Shakespeare Festival, we got our first look at July offerings, and they'll have you rocking to the beat all month long, beginning July Fourth weekend.
Must-sees of the month include the ever-interesting Apollo Chamber Players'Latin Beats, featuring local and national guests, on July 3, street-meets-classical Fly Dance Company (a.k.a. The Gentlemen of Hip-Hop) on July 16, and the three-day indie music showcase series, Miller Summer Mixtape, which runs at the end of the month.
All performances at Miller are free. And while masks are no longer required—though they're still strongly encouraged—the rest of the Miller two-step still is. So keeping doin' that dance, ya'll.

The weather's warming, vaccine shipments are headed to H-Town in droves, and some sense of normalcy is returning as more and more Bayou City favorites, like the Miller Outdoor Theatre, are reopening.
Yes, the Miller Outdoor Theatre finally reopens on May 1 with a summer season full of free family-fun offerings, including Houston Ballet Reignited (May 7–8),the Houston Ballet's first live performance since the city's Covid-19 shutdown last year, and the park's annual Juneteenth celebration (June 19), this year featuring Grammy-winning blues legend Bobby Rush.
But before you pack up the car and brave the re-emerging Houston traffic for Hermann Park, there are a few things you should know first. The theater has put in place the Miller Two-Step (yes, like the country-western dance, a staple of dance halls and dads at weddings) to ensure the safety of everyone and follow City of Houston guidelines regarding Covid-19:
Step #1
All tickets are available online, beginning at 9 a.m. a week before each performance and closing at noon the day of the performance. Covered seating will be extremely limited and socially distant, so keep an eye out for when tickets drop to snatch yours up. On the other hand, hill seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be limited, so make your plans ahead of time to guarantee a comfortable area for yourself and your posse.
Step #2
Masks are required for all attendees, except for when you are eating and drinking. Also, if you are not feeling up to a crowd just yet, the theater is sharing livestreamed performances through its website, Facebook, and YouTube.
